configure username and password in 7.3

We had an old version of Compaq Insight Manager running about 4 years ago and haven't kept up with it. Since then i have loaded SIM 4.2 and have most of our servers seeing everything and updating with no problems. I have older servers that i am trying to update the agents using PSP 7.3. The problem i'm running into is the older version (7.1 and before) used an admin, guest, or operator account and i don't know what the passwords for any of them are. How do i configure/add a new account for the system homepage when installing the new 7.3 agents? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: configure username and password in 7.3

Chad,
Starting in PSP7.20 there was a new component added called the System Management Homepage. It is now required for accessing the agents - the good thing about the new SMH component is that it does not require you to setup these side access accounts, instead it uses OS authentication to sign-in. Any Windows' userid that is in the Administrator group can be used to sign-in into the agents (or more accurately the SMH) with Admin access. If you do not wish to have to use your Admin ID's you can configure the SMH to give priviledge levels to other OS groups that you can setup. It is discussed in this doc here:

Good luck,

Re: configure username and password in 7.3

Rich,
Thanks for the info. I have another question, when you say OS Authentication your're talking about a local Administrator account correct. What if the box is a DC where there are no local Admin accounts?

SMH will support Both [local Admin] and [Domain admin]

you can try both [domain\username] or [username] in "user" field of SMH (it will work fine)
