CPU time increase with Insight Agent 7.4

DL760G2 with 4 procs.

Having issues with cqmgserv.exe (Insight Manager Agent) running up one processor (and switching processors) to the max. This keeps a baseline of Total CPU time at 14%.

Anyone else seeing this issue in 7.4?

YES! YES! YES! I've seen this on every W2K3 server that I've pushed the 7.4 agents to. Happy to hear it isn't just me!

Mine has happened to DL380s.

I opened a case on it, but don't have a response yet.

Are you running SP1 for W2K3? I'm wondering if HP designed 7.4 to work only with SP1. I don't see that requirement in the documentation, but that hasn't stopped OEM shops before...

No, none are running SP1. Interesting you mention SP1 though. My CMS has the 7.40 agents, though it also has the entire 7.4 PSP, and it's not having a problem.

I have noticed the same problem, upgraded my DL 360 G3 with PSP 7.4 from 7.1 and my cqmgserv.exe keeps sucking 50% of CPU power. Any Ideas what cud be done to tackle this situation?

Just to keep everyone updated. I've had a support case open on this issue since my first post. Case #3212457205

Today I spoke with an L2 and he is escalating the issue to HP engineering.

If would like to offer up additional information, email to support@atl.hp.com with the case# in the subject line. The more info eng receives, the sooner they should identify the problem and provide a resolution.

HP Engineering officially has the case. They will have hardware in the lab tomorrow to start the attempt to reproduce the problem.

From what I can tell, it's only happening to older DL series, right? My ML's aren't having any problem, neither is my newest DL385.

Mine have all been Proliant DL380s.

We had the same issue on our Central Console. It's a DL380 G2 running W2K SP4. CPU ran a steady 50% until I rebooted the server and then it dropped to negligible levels.

I have enctounted this problem on DL380 G3 servers running Windows 2000 SP4. Reverting back to 7.3 fixed the problem.

My resolution was the same as John's - backed off to the 7.30 agents.

I am running a ML370R01 ... OLD p3 800mhz...
I have upgraded the software to 7.4 and have NOT seen this problem

I am having the same problem on Proliant DL385 (AMD64).

Delaying the startup of HP Insight Server Agents service by few minutes seems to fix the issue.

For anyone who is currently or has previously experienced this problem, PLEASE create a support case for this issue. Right now, HP only has mine and maybe one other. The more cases they have for the same issue, the more weight the Support teams can place on development to release a patch.

They have been able to reproduce this issue in 3rd level support, but have yet to determine root cause.

The solution is not for end users to have to make complicated work-arounds or not upgrade at all. The solution is to have HP correct the bug. Once you have a support case open, please email your system survey to support@atl.hp.com with the case # in the subject line.

Just posted on another thread about this same problem, I am also having the same issues experienced here. CPU alerts have become so high; we are disabling the CPU alerts on server all together to try and keep our email and pager alerts down. This generates new issues though, now all systems running 7.40 are ignoring all CPU alerts, if we have a problem we would never know. I am opening up a case with HP at this time to help facilitate a fix. But it would be nice to have HP announce this problem officially so that we can at least provide our management with an official HP statement acknowledging the problem.

Same problem here. W2K SP4 on DL380 G3. Cpu pegged ~ 50%. Tried uninstall / reinstall / reboot.

We observered the same issues with cqmgserve.exe on a DL740 with 8 CPU and HT activated --> CPU baseline increased to 7%. Call @ HP is initiated.

I have the same issue on my DL360's g3/g4 and our ML350's as well. I'm glad it's not just me.

We have this problem on a DL740 G1 with Windows 2003 (no sp1).

I have checked other servers ML530 G2 (W2k3 no SP1), DL380 G4 (2000 and 2003) and they have no problems.

Same Problem here - We're running Win2K SP4. CPU TIme increased so much that we had to stop the SIM services all together.

We upgraded quite a few servers over the weekend and experienced this issue on three servers, all are W2K SP4. The models are different though - one DL380, one ML570 and one DL360. Gonna open a call now. Thanks.

Same issue for us at my company. The only affected machines were Windows 2k, SP4.
ALl of my Windows 2k3 boxes are SP1, so that may be the fix as far as they go.
My case number with HP is: 3212688431 if anyone wants to contribute to the fix.
