Dell servers with HPSIM

Adding to the ton of HP servers we have, my company wants to manage about 60 dell servers. What can I expect to see from HPSIM in the way of monitoring information?

It will search, discover Dell boxes & should communicate with Dell agents (do not try to install HP agents though).

Probably you will get rather basic info (CPU, memory, etc) but won't be able to fully control Dell severs.

If I copy all the *.mib's for the dell servers to the mib folder in insight man. Do I need to do anything else like register etc. Or will just coping the *.mibs (Dells) to this folder be sufficient.

Google for 'site:dell.com filetype:pdf systems insight manager' and you will find a step by step document on how to incorporate Dell server management into HP SIM. There are several steps.

The PDF listed will provide step by step instruction to compile and register the MIBs with HPSIM. We have found HPSIM does not correctly report server status or properly interpret severity of SNMP traps. Dell's solution for server hardware monitoring, data collection, and reporting is OpenManage IT Assistant. It's free from http://support.dell.com. Not quite as good of a tool as HPSIM, but it does seem to have all the functionality you miss when trying to monitor Dell servers in HPSIM.
