Device does not have supported instrumentation

Hi!

I am experimenting with SIM 5.0 and have been able to successfully collect data on HP systems running Linux and Windows 2000. I have however come across a problem when doing a data collection on a machine running Windows 2003 SP1.

I have installed the latest version of the Proliant Support pack and can access the management webpage (https://localhost:2381). I can "snmpwalk" the machine and get information about the host successfully. When I try a data collection, the log message tells me that the device does not have supported instrumentation.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Joel

Re: Device does not have supported instrumentation

Did you snmpwalk itself or from another station? WS03 by default installs SNMP to only respond to localhost. Change to 'any server' or to the specific ones (like you HP SIM server) that need access via SNMP...

Re: Device does not have supported instrumentation

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. I have changed the SNMP settings on my machine to "Accept SNMP from any host" but still no data collection! The snmpwalk that I executed was from my CMS to the machine I want to collect data on (they are different machines). So, it seems like SNMP is working ... yet the data collection isn't.

Thanks Again,
Joel

You may need to force the identification task to run before HP SIM recognizes it...

Re: Device does not have supported instrumentation

Hi David, et al:

I have resolved this problem. When I initially discovered my systems the SNMP settings were not correct. So, the machines appeared in my list of systems, but did not have SNMP as a valid "device" for collecting data. I expected that once I had fixed the SNMP settings, SIM would go and get the rest of the machine's details (which it didnt).

I was able to get SIM to discover the additional system information by deleting them from the list and adding them again.

Thanks for your help on this one!
