E-mail alerts for threshold monitoring

Hi, got my CPU, hard disk and other thresholds set on servers but I don't get alerts when they are exceeded. SIM does'nt show them as having an error either.

How do I get SIM to monitor this?

Thanks

Re: E-mail alerts for threshold monitoring

You should set the trap destination in the SNMP service on the managed node. Specify the IP Address or name of HPSIM server. Whenever the threshold is exceeded, Management Agents will generate a SNMP trap that will inturn be forwarded to the IP / Name specified in the trap destination.

Goto Services -> SNMP Service -> Traps.

Specify the Community String and also the trap destination. Save the settings and restart SNMP Service.

Re: E-mail alerts for threshold monitoring

Also, the SNMP Trap is only sent when the threshold is crossed and if the agent is restarted.
The Server status is not affected by Disk Thresholds.
I run a report against the HPSIM database to pick up Servers where the disk space used is greater than 80% to catch Servers where I've missed the alert.

Re: E-mail alerts for threshold monitoring

Thanks for all info, got the traps all set, have been using SIM for a while but only discovered thresholds the other day. I have set various auto event handlers for performance and have checked the Event page for a device I know has exceeded the threshold, so expect I need to run reports.

If I get stuck I will post back.

Thanks again.

Re: E-mail alerts for threshold monitoring

Hi looked at reports but could not find thresholds, found % ot disk used which seems useful.

How can I setup a report to monitor thresholds? Can this be run on a sked?

Thanks,

James
