Editing MIB config file - does it require a restart of any services

Hi,

We are looking at changing the severity of various events and I know this can be done by editing the MIB config file. What is the impact of doing this? Do I need to restart any services after the changes? Is a full reboot required?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Not sure what you mean by editing the MIB config file.
In HPSIM you can change the severity using the HPSIM interface. But if you're manually editing config files I'm not sure what the results would be. I'd guess you'd need to restart the HPSIM service.

Thanks for the reply, can you expand a little, I'm new to setting up Insight and would like to know the best approach for setting the severity of alerts. If this can be done through the interface that would be great as you suggested that would be the way to go.

Look under Options ->Events -> SNMP Trap settings. Select the MIB and you should be able to change the severity.
From there you can change the severity.
Be aware though that the changes might be lost when HPSIM gets upgraded.

That option isn't there in Options -> Events, I'll stick with my original plan of editing the mib cfg files. Thanks anyway.
