False SIM "System is unreachable" messages
I've been modifying the timeout and retry values, but I don't think they are working correctly. It seems to me that SIM is ignoring the values I type in.
I updated from SIM 4.0 to 4.2. I had this feature turned off since I couldn't get it to work as I expected.
Can someone explain to me how all of the following configuration screens ipmact the "system is unreachable" message and which one I should change?
I'm only concerned with ICMP ping responses and I would like 2 retries with a 10 second timeout (unless someone can recommend something more reasonable).
Options->Global Protocol Settings (10 second timeout-2 retries)
Options->System Protocol Settings (I ran this job with ALL SYSTEMS)
LOGS->All scheduled Tasks
Hardware Status Polling (for servers and nonservers)
Step 2 Select Protocol Setting (I selected only ICMP)
Time & Retires (have something different than my defaut values) timeout -- use default (currently "4" -- I have no idea where this came from)
reries -- use custom - 2
If I go to a specific device
System Page -> Links -> System Protocol Settings, I see that it says Use Global Defaults. However, the "Ping" Setting is dimmed out and the time is 5 and retries is 0. I'm wondering if it's somehow defaulting to this setting.

Re: False SIM "System is unreachable" messages
It seems the Global Parameters were being ignored in some cases. There was something earlier in the Forums about it.

Is that what you're suggesting?

Re: False SIM "System is unreachable" messages
I've gone through all the 4.2 MIBS and cannot find this trape - if anyone knows how to change the snmp trap "system is reachable" from Normal to Major status, let us know how you did it.
Thanks - Scout

Re: False SIM "System is unreachable" messages
Ping is the only protocol configured. The timeout is set to 5 and the retries to 2.. Anyone have any ideas, it's got to be a problem with the new version as it was fine before hand, now it's becoming a headache..
Cheers.

Re: False SIM "System is unreachable" messages
I receive a LOT of false messages but only when SIM is performing an autodiscovery. I receive many false messages about many different events (not just reachable/unreachable) for the duration of the autodiscovery. The messages stop as soon as discovery is complete.
All of my discovery/alerting settings are the same as 4.1 - never seen this issue before.
HP: any "insight" into this problem?
