Filtering or removing unnecessary alerts
While using Insight 7, we're getting extraneous alerts that we'd like to remove, as the system pages us for them. For example, we get alerts when the system notifies us that a tape drive needs to be cleaned. However, after we get that alert, we get two alerts:
(Server):Device Status Change:Event
Event description: The device status has changed due to one of the polling tasks, see below for additional details.
Source of current status change:HP SNMP Agent Polling Previous device status:Normal
(Server):Discovered Device:SNMP Device Status Change
Event description: This event is created whenever a device has been discovered. The Discovered Device event can not be deleted. If this is seen from a notification task, that task was configured to run using new or removed entries from a device query and likely the device status changed. See the help text on creating notification tasks for additional information.
The severity on these alerts are Minor and Informational, but I'd rather not turn off those categories altogether, in case that affects other alerts we want to receive. Any tips that could be provided would be helpful. Thanks!

Re: Filtering or removing unnecessary alerts
You can't really remove selected items from a generic category.
You might want to not be paged or e-mailed on informational events, you coud then change the severity for those events that are reporting a higher level that you're not interested in to also be informational.
I've only ever really set up notification for critical and major.
If I want to look at other events, then I get a chance via HPSIM to at least have a look.
You can create notifications based on a selected event (or events) if there was a small subset you were interested in.
You might want to consider moving from CIM 7 to SIM 5.
