Getting information from non-HP systems

I want to use HPSIM to monitor non-HP computers. Is there a way to get more detailed information about the PCs. I had it configured once but now I don't remember how since I move HPSIM to another server.

That information is gathered via WMI. Make sure the WMI Mapper is installed and make sure to configure an account and password in global protocol settings for WBEM.

Besides the WMI Mapper if you have the SNMP MIB's you can get traps. I have Dell and HP in Insight manager, along with a couple generic brands. I have one SUN Server connected but have not finished testing, it does recognize the model with the rule i put in.

What are the benefits of using WMI vs SMNP?

Do you recommend using both?

I use Both. WMI will give you the Product information and other Windows Information. SNMP will tell when there is a problem with the system, and send the trap to the server for logging and handling.

Re: Getting information from non-HP systems

Thanks.

I am probably not going to be able to use SNMP (although I wish I could) I do want to use HPSIM to track all relevant data.

I do not see the information being pulled.

Any suggestions?

Re: Getting information from non-HP systems

HPSIM has been working pretty good for me on getting a Hardware Inventory of my Dells and HP/Compaq Servers. When we have a raid failure it will send me an snmp trap letting me know it happened.

SNMP is not the most secure protocol, but if you lock it down on who can communicate with it, it works pretty well. Also removing the public and private key names and creating your own custom keys to use across all servers works well. These settings for SNMP can also be pushed to your servers thru the configure - Replicate Agent Settings. This only works if you have it wide initially or already have it locked down to the management server.

This may be a dumb question, but where can a guy get the Dell MIBS.

Re: Getting information from non-HP systems

Never a dumb question, you get them directly from the Dell Site. You can pick a poweredge server and look thru the downloads.
This is a link to the latest Powerwedge MIB's, i used a 1650 for this one, but you can use any of the poweredge models to find it.

Re: Getting information from non-HP systems

The thing is this, the devices I want to monitor are not servers. They are workstations. (All my servers are Proliant G3s)

I had this working once but now it is not. I moved my HPSIM installation to another server.

Can someone give me a step by step procedure that will allow me to see in the Data Collection report things like OS, Serial and model numbers?
