Health/Aggregrate Event Status polling instead of SNMP traps
I have just installed HPSIM, and playing around with it.
SNMP traps works without a problem. I receive a notification when I simulate a hardware failure on a test server.
Besides SNMP traps, I also want to poll the status of a server.
I just want to know the Health/Aggregrate Event Status of a server.(Critical/Major/Minor/Warning etc.)
I thought hardware status polling would do this for me, but it doesn´t seems to be so.
When I simulate another hardware failure, the status on the HP System Management Homepage of the servers turns to degraded or failed and a SMTP trap is sent.
A notification is received.
I clear the trap in HPSIM, and the status of the server in HPSIM returns to Normal.
I immediately ran a hardware status poll for the server, knowing that the status on the HP System Management Homepage still failed is.
To my suprise the Health/Aggregate Event status of the server remains Normal instead of a Major/Critical status.
Why doesn´t this work?
Is this possible?
I am using:
Systems Insight Manager 5.1 with SP1 -Windows
Build version: C.05.01.00.02
Build date: 2007-04-11 17:26

Re: Health/Aggregrate Event Status polling instead of SNMP traps
SNMP Status Polling updates the HS column of Hardware Status, not the ES column of aggregate Event Status.

Re: Health/Aggregrate Event Status polling instead of SNMP traps
Yes, I understand that but it doesn't answer my question exactly.
Let me say it otherwise.
If the overall system status on the HP System Management Homepage is Failed and hardware polling is used (SNMP traps are not used!), the HS column should turn to the Major/Critical status.
Is this assumption correct?
Because it doesn't work for me.

Re: Health/Aggregrate Event Status polling instead of SNMP traps
Your assumption is correct. Check to make sure that HP SIM has properly identified as a ProLiant server and has discovered both SNMP and SMH (see the properties). If the identification hasn't been achieved, HS is only showing you ping up/down status.
