How do I get my CMS to display on the all systems tab
Hello,
I just started installing HP Sim 4.1 on a Windows XP Pro pc that is on our domain. I have done the automatic discovery and it pulls up all of the servers, clients, but will not show the CMS. Is this suppose to happen. The reason I am asking is that when I try and deploy the initial software, only a client Pc shows up. It will not give me any choice of selecting the CMS machine to deploy the software from. It only displays a managed client that has nothing to do with the repository.

Re: How do I get my CMS to display on the all systems tab
Hi,
You really shouldn't have installed SIM 4.1 on your pc. SIM is resource intensive and is best installed on a dedicated box purely for SIM.
One of the reasons your CMS may not be showing up is because of serveral reasons.
#1. You need Insight Mgmt Agents running in order for SIM to manage the system. This is for servers.
#2. There are Insight Mgmt Agents for desktops/laptops exclusively as well. THey are not interchangeable with the agents meant for servers.
#3. Chances are, you may not have SNMP service installed on your pc.
Again, SIM uses many other mgmt protocols as well but SNMP is a big one.
I don't know if any of this helps but those are my thoughts.

Re: How do I get my CMS to display on the all systems tab
G L,
I installed the CMS on a dedicated WinXP Pro Box, It is only used for the SIM. I found out that I did not setup the SNMP correctly. Now the problem I am having is that I have a client PC on a separate segment than the CMS that keeps showing up with the CMS IP address. One minute my CMS is showing up correctly with it's correct static IP address (192....) and later on when I check, The IP address is still there but it now shows a client PC as the system name. The client Pc has a static IP address (112....) When I click on the client pc and see the info it shows 11 IP addresses associated with it.( ten in the 112...segment and the IP address for the CMS) Could someone please tell me what to check next, also the "other" 10 IP addresses are for the other clients that I have on my network. They do not show up when the client takes over the CMS ip address. They are all setup the same way except for the one that is taking over the ip addresses. my boss set it up with a static IP, the others a Dynamic.

Re: How do I get my CMS to display on the all systems tab
HPSIM gets names from DNS, or if you've set it up a Host file for HPSIM.
If you're getting discrepancies in names then you need to check DNS.
Note, HPSIM needs both forward and reverse lookups to be accurate.
You might want to restrict your discovery range and delete old Servers and try and narrow down what is causing the issue.
