How does SNMP / HP agents work on Windows 2003?
I am wondering if the Insight management agents use the Windows 2003 SNMP API for communicating with HP SIM, or if they have direct access to the hardware.
My issue is that I have a 3rd party monitoring applicaiton (AppManager) that uses the Windows SNMP API, and it is missing things like Integrated log events. These events do show up in HP SIM. If both the HP SIM and AM agents use the Windows API then I will know that I need to focus my efforts on the AM agent..

Re: How does SNMP / HP agents work on Windows 2003?
The IM Agents do use the standard Windows SNMP Trap Service to send traps back to HPSIM. That's why you need to configure the Trap Section on SNMP with a suitable Community Name and HPSIM Server.
The HPSIM does seem to pick up some items from the OS. But I'm not sure if these are just standard SNMP Traps generated by the OS or it is something picked up by the IM Agents themselves. I suspect the latter.

Of course! DOH!
I wonder if anyone else has seen quirkiness in the Windows 2003 SNMP? Supposedly there is an issue with SNMPClose function of the API...
