how to set snmp settings on win2003 server
I'm in process if setting up SIM 5.0 on a Windows 2003 server with SQL2000 to managed my 6 HP servers running Windows 2003.
On the managed servers, I'm unsure what I should set the snmp settings for.
Under the snmp service properties pages, I have the following questions:
On the traps page, I was going to use HPServers as the community name and set the trap destination for my SIM management machine. Does that seem ok?
On the security page, I'm unsure whether I need to add a community name since I already specified one on the traps page in the previous step. If I do need to create a seperate community name, what rights should it have? read/create? read/write? What would this community name be used for specifically? Also, which radio button should I use, "accept snmp packets from any hosts" or "accept snmp packets from this host". ?
On the agent page, there are 5 service checkbox options. Currently all are selected except "physical" and "datalink and subnetwork". Is that okay?
Any help is appreciated.
My main goal is to collect data from the managed servers to collect performance information (cpu, disk use, etc.)

Re: how to set snmp settings on win2003 server
In the security page you should enter the community string that is accepted by your server (If in case that particular server is going to process traps). This is very important on your management server (HPSIM server). So on your HPSIM server add "HPServers" with "Read-only" access.
It is always better to select "accept snmp packets from this host" and add your HPSIM servers IP address to the list.
And your selection on the Agent page is OK.

Re: how to set snmp settings on win2003 server
I have the same community name listed on the traps page as the security page, and the trap destination pointing to the CMS machine. Do I also need to create a second community name on the security tab for read/write (or read/create?) or is just having the one community name with "read only" enough?

Re: how to set snmp settings on win2003 server
Does the Community String set in the Traps tab need to be in the Security Community Name also ? Or can those be different ? Ie. Have HPServers in the Traps tab, and HPSomething in the security tab ? I thought i understood it, guess not.
Thanks in advance
