Re: How to Version Control Agent?

Hi Kim, good to hear you fixed the problem.

I am having the same trouble you did. Can you please specify what needs to be changed. I know you said to use 'localhost' but can you please tell me where this is to be changed. On the managed system, or CMS? Also in HP, or the system services?

I would appreciate your help as I have also tied everything and cannot get VCA to work.

Very much appreicated.

Re: How to Version Control Agent?

You have to change the SNMP settings. Go under services on the managed node, open up SNMP service, click on the security tab.

Two addresses should be listed: "localhost" and the address of your main SIM server.

Let me know if that's not enough.

Re: How to Version Control Agent?

Hello again Kim.

I understand what you are saying, however when I go to the security tab I can only add/edit the 'accepted community name' box at the top.

The 'accept SNMP packets from these hosts' box below is all greyed out and I cannot add the CMS or 'localhost'. I assume this is my problem as you mentioned I need to add 'localhost'.

What can I do to enable this option/feature so I can enter in the CMS and 'localhost'?

I am using Server 2003 with SP1.

Thank you for your time and patience.
Harry.

Re: How to Version Control Agent?

I would venture to guess that the inability to change the SNMP settings has to do with local security on that server. Are you sure that you are logged in as an Administrator? That's all I can think of, sorry.

Re: How to Version Control Agent?

Harry,

Did you add a new community string in the SNMP configuration beside the public community?

Re: How to Version Control Agent?

Hi Kim,

This is what I have setup:
- Under security I have my community (abc) listed with read/write permissions
- Under 'accept SNMP packets from these hosts' this option is greyed out and I cannot add 'localhost' or my CMS

- Under traps I have the community name (abc)
- Trap destinations is my CMS server name

Any ideas why the SNMP security box is greyed out and I cannot make changes?

Thanks.

Re: How to Version Control Agent?

My fix was the SNMP settings, but they had to be made not on the SNMP tab in services.msc, but on the HPSIM Home Page -> Settings -> SNMP & Agent Configuration.

Trap, community and Management Agents all have to be filled in. Why they aren't being pulled from the machines SNMP settings I'm not sure about.
