HP Insight Agents - SNMP Test Trap Failure - Server 2008
Hi,
I am working on a Windows Server 2008 x64 estate with the HP Insight Agents installed at the latest version of 8.20.0.0. I am unable to send a test trap via the HP Management dialogue accessible via control panel. When I click 'Send Test Trap' I get the following message: 'The Management Agents Remote Alerter agent has not finished initializing or is not enabled. The test trap was not sent'.
I have upgraded to the latest agent from version 8.10.0.0. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the HP agents. The Remote Alerter is enabled and the service started. I have restarted SNMP and HP Agent services.
I have applied Microsoft Patch KB950923 which resolves an issue with the SNMP service. The HP agents were reinstalled after this patch.
The problem occurs on all Windows Server 2008 x64 servers. The test trap works fine on Windows Server 2003 servers.
I require the SNMP traps to work as they will forward hardware alerts on to Unicenter NSM r11.2.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Chris

Re: HP Insight Agents - SNMP Test Trap Failure - Server 2008
All the services are started.
I have now found the resolution of this issue. We have User Account Control enabled on these servers. When in Control Panel I need to run the HP Management Agent as Administrator (right-click > Run As) even though I am an Administrator! This allowed the test trap to go through. So i've now resolved the issue.
Application of Microsoft Patch KB950923 is a pre-requisite though to get SNMP working.
Thanks for taking the tame to look at this.
Regards, Chris
