HP SIM and Novell 6.5

Just installed HPSIM 4.1 and I have a Novell 6.5 box that when it was shut down HPSIM sent a message that it was unreachable. I then started the Novell box and since it has redundant power supplies unplugged one to see what kind of message SIM would send. SIM did not send one. Do I have to configure any setting for this alert or others?

Re: HP SIM and Novell 6.5

There's 2 different mechanisms--the first is from a status poll that couldn't talk to the server so it was reported as unreachable. Actions such as power supplies failing would trigger the agent to send a trap to hpSIM. Check to make sure you have a trap destination set in SNMP on your NetWare server.

Re: HP SIM and Novell 6.5

David,

SNMP is set on the Novell server. Anything else I can look at?

Re: HP SIM and Novell 6.5

Follow the chain...

- was it logged on the NW server
- is there an event in hpSIM's database
- does the notification task show that it fired?

Re: HP SIM and Novell 6.5

David,

was it logged on the NW server - YES

is there an event in hpSIM's database - NO
The agent logged it on the server.

does the notification task show that it fired? - Where do I look for this?

Re: HP SIM and Novell 6.5

Hi Jon,

did you configure the Trap Destination in the Traptarg.cfg file in ETC Directory and afterworks restart SNMP to take the new setting?

Re: HP SIM and Novell 6.5

Paul,

I had to compile a few MIB's for the Novell traps to work.

Thanks
