HP SIM and proliant warranty lookup

Is there any way for HP SIM to lookup warranty info and store in its db for reporting?
Thanks,
Eric

Yes - you need to install and enable the "Contract and Warrenty" option. This comes with SIM 5.2 and I belive 5.1 (not sure which SP it first showed up).

Which version of SIM do you have? Did you install the WAC when you installed SIM? After you install it, there is some configuration you need to do before it shows up in SIM.

More info on the "After you install it, there is some configuration you need to do before it shows up in SIM" statement would be helpfull.

Thanks for your answer,

Re: HP SIM and proliant warranty lookup

I'm currently running HPSIM 5.1 with all latest sp's and hotfixes. I'm not familiar though with the WAC option. Is this installed via the regular HPSIM setup routine or is it a separate download?
Thanks,Eric

Re: HP SIM and proliant warranty lookup

When you install SIM (5.1 or 5.2), there is an option in the install wizard for the Warranty piece. You would see this in the same area you would find the options for SSH, PPM, etc.

After you have installed SIM, assuming you enabled the above option, you would see an icon on the desktop of the SIM server which allows you to configure the software. Make sure you are NOT in a RDP session. It will not work! You MUST be at the console of the server. The icon name is "Remote Support Software Manager (Windows Administrators only)". When you run this, it sets up some soft of software updating system. This system then will download a bunch of additional software which makes the warranty stuff show up in SIM.

To be honest, I really don't understand what HP is trying accomplish with all this...why don't they just include all the needed software in the SIM package. But that is just the way it works. It took me quite a while to figure out how this works (especially the RDP thing) - so don't feel bad if you get extremely frustrated with it. Once you get it working, it is 75% useful. You will find it cannot get warranty information automatically on older servers without some manual intervention on your part.

Good luck
