HP SIM and Software/Firmware List

Hi there,
sorry if this has been posted before, but i am new to 4.2 (just upgraded from cim7) and am still working out some 'issues'. I used to be able to create a 'report/list' with machines that had older versions of software/firmware installed and then runa task against that to update just those machines. Now i am trying to do the same and am using the Custom List for this, but when i create the list, i dont get more then 3 servers. My test list is as follows:
Search for systems where software/firmware
system type is Server
and OS is MSFT Win2k
and software/firmware is Software - System Management
and name is HP Insight Mngmt Agents for Win2k/2k3
and version is <=> ANY...
I figured that would show me all Insight Management agents.. Out of a list of 120+ machines i get 3.. I ran the software id numerous times, and all other system tasks for that matter, same result. VCA's are trusted and show good info when i click on the Software Status per machine. Thanks for any help.

Re: HP SIM and Software/Firmware List

Well I just tried that and got a complete set of bogus information!
It listed a number of my Servers with 7.20 as having Foundation Agent 7.0.0.0 and others as having 7.10.0.0. The SW Status has been updated so it's not that.
So, I'm not sure where the Custom List is getting its information from, but it doesn't correspond to my current configuration.

Re: HP SIM and Software/Firmware List

And another part just showed up this morning: I checked the 'reports' again (ie. my custom system lists for software versions) and now they show ALL systems. Even ones that have certain versions installed i query.. (Like checking for VCA less then 2.1.0.720 which i had installed on a few machines, they still show up on the list).. Stumped..

Re: HP SIM and Software/Firmware List

Weird: I tried to Edit the list and got the following error:
A Runtime Error has occured.
Do you wish to debug?
Line 1377
Error 'firstChild' is null or not an object

So i deleted them and recreated them, and we are back to square 1 (ie. only 2-3 machines show up)..

Re: HP SIM and Software/Firmware List

Did anyone find anything new on this ? It's quite cumbersome to have to go through all machines to see whether an update is required or not...

Re: HP SIM and Software/Firmware List

I've posted this question to HP Service (through the webform) on 4/11/2005 at 11:00am. Aside from the auto-reply, i havent heard a peep from support. Sad, really.

Update from HP Support:

Aeh ? It's a part of the search for system lists.. I replied back to them, that i consider that a fix not an unported option. It shows up under search for systems, searching for software/firmware and it doesnt give any results... We shall see..

Re: HP SIM and Software/Firmware List

I'm seeing an issue similar to Bobs.

We have used a custom list to show all servers with agents older than a certain level. It appeared to work. However, when we upgrade to newer agents and do a software status update, the servers that had older agents still report older agents even though they have been upgraded.

If a do a list without conditions and show the software versions, it also shows old Insight Manager agent versions in the list.

If I use the VCA or generate a system summary report, it shows the current version installed.

It appears that the system is not removing old data from the database, or is querying against the older data for that list, even though there are clearly new instances there with the correct newer data.

Has anyone else noted this or found a workaround?
