HP-SIM Insight Diagnostics

Hi there,
I don´t understand the concept behind "Data Collection" in HP-SIM...
The "Data Collection" only gathers few information and saves it to the database whereas "Insight Diagnostics" gathers much more detailed information which is not transported to HP-SIM.
I want to create a report, which lists all of my systems with installed Host BUS Adapter - but the report shows no result.
How will I be able to store the collected data of "Insight Diagnostics" in HP-SIM and use this info for queries?

Thanks in advance

Hi Tino,
In this case I guess you can log on to your servers system management homepage from the SIM manager and collect this info. Also you can try online performance monitoring if you have performance management pack installed.

Re: HP-SIM Insight Diagnostics

If I want to know, which server has HBAs installed, I will have to go to every(!) System Management Homepage to look for details under Insight Diagnostics - of course this can be done via HP-SIM - but still manually with the SMH. It´s hard to look for details on about 60 machines manually.
Performance Management Pack won´t be used in our company.

I thought, infos gathered by Insight Diagnostics could be forwarded to HP-SIM and reports could be generated depending on this very detailed info.

Re: HP-SIM Insight Diagnostics

HP-SIM has a different report for "controllers", this is not the "inventory'-report

Re: HP-SIM Insight Diagnostics

Tino--Insight Diagnostics is just that, it provides diagnostic assistance. It is just one component in the ProLiant Support Pack and does not replace the need for the System Management Homepage/Insight Agents. Roll out the PSP using Initial ProLiant Support Pack install, do a data collection and you'll be pleased with the information available for reporting from the database.

Re: HP-SIM Insight Diagnostics

As Pieter has said, you can identify which Servers have HBA's from the Controller report, the problem is they're not very clearly identified.

Our FCA2404's just show up in the report as "Fibre Channel" whereas the FCA2101's which are older show up as "FCA 2101".

FC HBA's and the different drivers you can use depending on the attached storage can be a bit of a challenge.

Re: HP-SIM Insight Diagnostics

I wonder why SIM has a special point "Storage Host Bus Adapters" under reports, and NO info is shown at all (see attachement). Please could someone check, if I'm the only one who is affected.

Re: HP-SIM Insight Diagnostics

I would suggest there is an SNMP-community mismatch between the SIM-server and the queried hosts.

Re: HP-SIM Insight Diagnostics

HI, I would like to confirm what Tino has mentioned in the above, I too have run a report with no success in getting HBA information. I have no SNMP mismatch as I get all other information just fine. And I also have tried using Pieter's way to collect HBA WWN and it does not give the required info.
Anybody has any clues on this?
