HP SIM monitoring MSA1000 Events and messages

Hello,

To monitor the health and events of an MSA1000 I have installed the "HP StorageWorks Fibre Channel Array Notification Driver for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008" on a connected server.

Now in this MSA1000 one disk is defective.

In SIM the health status of the server running the driver is changed to Minor. Shouldn't a broken disk been a Major issue? Can I change the severity somewhere?

Regards,
Aad

Re: HP SIM monitoring MSA1000 Events and messages

The server's status is correctly reflected as minor since the failure was in a redundant component and the health of the server is not affected.

When a drive fails, the agent sends a critical event for the physical drive itself and a major event for the logical drive. The server's status is set to minor.

It is not recommended to go about changing the severity of events--they are based on industry standards, and anyway, each time a MIB update would come out, you'd need to go back in a do your edits all over again before applying the update.

The best practice is to change how you react to an event in your Automatic Event Handling to reflect the response you deem appropriate.
