I have been tasked with updating our old CIM vintage 4.3 management system to HP SIM 4. I have installed ver 4.0 (how do I get 4.1?) and have discovered most all of our 150+ servers. Many show IP instead of DNS names and I understand from other posts this is because the installed agents are also older. I would like to get all the agents updated. I would also like to "automate" the process. Is this what the Version Control Repository does? Should that be my next step or should setting up trusts come first? Is there a quick "hit list" of what steps should be performed in what order to make full use of all the features of HP SIM and it's associated packs? I hate doing work twice. Lots of questions,I know.
Thanks in advance.

Solution
HPSIM 4.1 can be found from:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/download.html
Also links to the update to fix an issue caused by the latest IE patch.
IP addresses instead of names is a DNS issue, nothing to do with the Agents. You need to check that both forward and reverse name resolution is correct for the Servers showing IP Addresses.
From HPSIM use the Deploy feature to update Servers. But as you've guessed, trusts has to be set up first. If you've some Servers with very old Agents you'll probably need to do some manual work.
Also check you've configured the agents in your repository with the Trust info. before deploying it.
You're facing the kind of issue I had a year or so ago, Servers with various agents (or not) and some use of CIM 4. There's no easy simple hit list, it's a case of trying to get the Servers to a standard level. Once done, it's much easier with HPSIM and the VCAs and VCRM keeping an eye on it.
