The Netservers have been discovered and all have the last version of instant top tools on them, snmp is working. Do I have to get some netserver mibs and compile them on the HP Systems manager?
How can I resolve this big problem?

Re: Hp systems manager not getting alerted to Netserver Failures
I did notice that a few HP Mibs were already present but were set to informational which is in line with your advice. i will be setting them all to major with a few set to critical, hopefully that will sort my annoying problem.
one mib I could not complile was the hptrap.mib
which gave me the message;
C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\mibs>mcompile hptrap.mib
HP Systems Insight Manager Mib Compiler, Version 1.0
Copyright (c) 2003 Hewlett Packard Corporation
Compiling hptrap.mib
Duplicate trap object systemHW7 on line 5009
Mib compilation failed.
not sure what that is all about.
Another interesting thing is that about 50% of all my NetServers have the MMC front panel saying that the event logs are full, could this also stop messages getting through. The only way to erase them is to reboot with a copy of navigator, you used to be able to clear them using HP top Tools using the web Gui, I don';t think you can do this with systems manager?
thanks for your help I will see if it works

SolutionAbout the Full Event Logs; I don't think it should prevent the server from sending SNMP traps. You can't clear the log from SIM, but another option is to install Instant TopTools on all of you NetServers. This can be easily accomplished trough the installer of the NetServer Agents. (We use 5.54, 5.55 seems not quite stable to me.) Since we stopped using TopTools Device Manager, I pushed it to all of our NetServers without any problems. (Almost all models of NetServer released is the past years.)
Besides the Event Log clearing which you can do there, Instant TopTools also provides a lot of additional information on the server wich isn't available from SIM. (Like temperature, fans speeds, hardware config etc.) When you run an "Identify Systems" task against the servers on which you just installed Instant TopTools a link to it is provided in SIM on the Links tab of the server.
Good Luck!
