HPSIM 4.1 Automated Events

I have noticed that my automated events seem to not run at times. I had a server go down just last night and it never reported it, even when it came back up. Our Servers Alive was the only thing that ping it and told us. I have seen this with two out of three automated events I have running.

I have not figured out a fix for this yet. i have tried going in and re-edit it and make sure everthing looks good. I have also tried disableing the event then enableing it. Not sure how to test it or fix it at this point.

Anyone else also running into this, before i call tech support.

Re: HPSIM 4.1 Automated Events

We need to make an important distinction between the event itself and the task that is triggered. Can you see an event in the HP SIM events list that shows the system went offline? If HP SIM never recorded an event, it can't trigger a task.

By default, the server polling status task runs every 5 minutes. It's possible the server came back online within that windows. Consider fine-tuning your polling task.

Re: HPSIM 4.1 Automated Events

The server shows an event at 8:43pm last night for it being unreachable. I did not turn the server back on till this morning and there is an event at 7:12am for that showing back up.

I have set Insight Manager to poll every 2min instead of the default 5min. My Servers Alive polls every 2min as well.

Scheduled Tasks are working correctly, Automatic tasks are not. There are 3 Automatic Event Tasks that each check a different set of servers.

The One Labled MF Servers shows a last run of 12/6/04 at 11:25am.

The One Labled Servers shows a last run of 12/7/04 at 8:49am.

The third one is current.

Re: HPSIM 4.1 Automated Events

I had to reboot the server to get them all working again. Would like to figure out why they even stopped. Two out of the three i am not as worried about them, but one of them that did have a problem is our central servers. The system is a DL360 G2, with two 1.4ghz processors and 4gb of RAM.

Re: HPSIM 4.1 Automated Events

Review the application log, the system log, and the logs in the hp Systems Insight Manager logs directory for clues. You may need to get assistance with reviewing the hp SIM logs.

I am half tempted suggesting upgrading to the latest version SIM that was just posted, but it may be best to at least review the logs prior to doing that in case the issue is environmental.

did not see anything that stuck out in the event logs, so far its running ok. I will just have to keep an I on it.
