HPSIM - How to add a new system type

Hi

I am trying to add a Cisco PIX firewall under Manage System Types would like to add a new entry to the System type drop-down list. Does anyone know how to do this? I have tried adding Firewall to the nodeTypesEnum table on my SQL server but this didn't work. Presumably there must be some way of doing this even if it means manually manipulating the SQL tables.

First I would recommend not doing any manual table changes.

If you are wanting a device to be added so that it shows up correctly on the display then go to the Options / Manage Syystem Types page. Select New and then hit the Retrieve From System Tab. This allows you to enter an IP Address to populate the OID fields etc. Pretty much just step through it.

The categories are all pre-set, I don't think you can add them if that's what you're trying to do.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply. That is what I'd like to do - add a new category - Firewall in this instance. I have added a number of Cisco switches and routers but the PIX is a firewall and there doesn't appear to be a suitable category.

Can't believe that these kind of things are not customisable!
