ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

This is more of an issue with the HP Agents and the System Home Page than it is with SIM, but could not find a forum for these so am asking here.

We have noticed that following PSP 7.2 (windows) that the system home page now reports the ILO boards as being critical -- presumably because they do not have an active network connection.

We have scores of Proliant servers that have ILO's but are not networked.

How do we change the behavior for these servers, such that the System Homepage (and SIM) do not show the ILO boards as being in a fault state.

Thanks!

Kevin,
Odd, I've not seen the same behaviour.
None of our local servers have network connections to the ILO ports. We're also on 7.20A.
The MP in the server is just "?" and from the System Management homepage the Management processor is all green.
The Embedded controller have 0.0.0.0 details for address etc. and a status of enabled.

Checked the HP Agent and they do have the Remote Insight Agent component as one of the Active Agents.

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

We have 3 items showing alarm state on the servers we have upgraded to 7.20:

* Home >Mgmt Proc > Embedded NEC98431
* Home >Mgmt Proc > Integrated Lights-Out
* Tasks > Remote Management > Remote Communications Options for Embedded NEC98431

The ILO says "enabled" and an IP address of 0.0.0.0

Prior to installing PSP 7.20a we never had these "failed" messages on these servers.

This is a great feature but problem is what have a significnat population here that we are not activly using ILO on.

Now the HP Agents have all been configured to monitor "Remote Insight".

wondering if this is the problem. If so I fear it would take painstaking labor to manually change this for 250+ servers for those we want ILO on for and those that we do not.

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

In the MP column for the Server, what's the status?

In the Tasks Section for the ILO that you mentioned are any IP details recorded there?
Mine has an associated IP Address, no idea where it got it from. If there is one, is it in your Discovery range?

In the Remote Insight Options, are the alarms enabled or disabled? Mine are disabled.

Have the ILO's for these ever been associated with Servers? Mine haven't.

Finally what version of ILO firmware?

As mentioned I've a number of DL360 & 380's G2's G3's and G4's that do not have ILO connections but display okay.
The firmware on most of these is out of date as typically I don't bother updating them.

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

the MP column for these servers is blank. Normally we would see a blue "?" here, but now it is just white space.

The IP is 0.0.0.0

Not sure where you see the "Remote Insight Options".

We upgraded the ILO firmware to 1.70 at the same time we updated the PSP.

These ILO boards are not enumerated anywhere in SIM. I only see the alarms if I go to "hardware status" in SIM or if I look in the system management homepage for the server itself.

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

Remote Insight Options is under the Tasks Tab - Remote management. I just checked a couple of other Servers and some of those are enabled but I do not see what you're seeing.

I'll update the ILO f/w to 1.70 and see if that changes things. Alas, off to more meetings, I'll let you know the results.

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

Looks as though it's 1.70 that does some freaky stuff.
I upgraded my ILO on a Server to 1.70, afterwards the Remote Management section of the System Homepage had gone, VCA still reports the old version of firmware although the Log states the upgrade completed okay.
The Server lists Management Processors as none, in the left hand panel before it listed it and if you hovered over it it gave http://0.0.0.0 as the page.

Now it's like the ILO has just disappeared.

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

We have seen similar issues after upgrading the iLO firmware to 1.70 (and PSP 7.20). Disabling the "Remote Insight Information" agent via the HP Management Agents control panel applet appears to remove the critical status from the system management home page.

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

I have applied 1.70 to Servers where the ILO is connected and everything is okay there.
At this point I'm not sure if the disappearance from the Server Page of non-connected ILO's is intentional or not.

No idea why I get the disappearance and you get the failures reported.
Which order did you apply things? the ILO firmware before the PSP update?

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

Maybe the attached screenshots will help.

We installed PSP 7.2 first, then ILO 1.70

The attached JPG contains portions of the system homepage (top) and then some of the information you see when you drill down into the first item.

Here is a 2nd screen shot that shows the ILO options settings on the same server.

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

On one server, the iLO FW was updated to 1.70 before PSP 7.10 was installed. On another, the iLO FW was updated to 1.70 after PSP 7.20 was installed.

Given that the critical status appears for both PSP 7.10 and 7.20, my guess is that it is the iLO 1.70 FW update that is the cause.

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

Experiencing same issue after updating 2 of 4 servers with 7.20A Firmware and ROM updates including iLO. I went from version 1.41 to 1.70 for iLO firmware and as Kevin has indicated the System Management Homepage indicates a failure with the Management Processor section for Integrated Lights Out and the NEC98431. The other 2 indicate no problem. Plugging in the iLO NIC into my LAN for one of the updated servers resolved the failure, as exepcted since the Integrated Lights-Out Log now logs the event as "iLO network link down"

Just out of curiousity Kevin and Rob, what System Management Homepages are you using? Are you both using the new version 2.0.1.104 instead of the older HTTP Server 5.94.0? (Version indicated at bottom of Home Page) Wondering if this is the difference?

Re: ILO Card Alerts with PSP 7.2

It very well coud be the system home page.

So far we've only deplyed the 1.70 firmware after the 7.2 PSP (which includes the new system home page 2.x)
