In-place upgrade of database server hosting SIM databases from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005

Hi all

I have an HP SIM 5.1 installation (running on Windows Servr 2003 SP1) with the databases on a separate SQL 2000 SP3 server (also running Windows Server 2003 SP1)

I am currently investigating if it is possible to do an in-place upgrade of this database server installation from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 and retain my SIM system in working conditions.

Some help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes it works.
this is how we did.
1.Shutdown HP SIM Server
2.Upgrade the SQL DB to 2005
3.Reboot the SQL Server after upgrade
4.Start the HP SIM Server

Re: In-place upgrade of database server hosting SIM databases from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005

I finally upgraded my SQL 2000 to SQL2005 before upgrading SIM to 5.3 SP1. I was pleasantly suprised to just disable the SIM services then perform a SQL inplace upgrade from SQL 2000 SP4 to SQL 2005 SP2. Had one error in the inplace upgrade that microsoft is aware of and you might experience as well, here's the link >
