Insight Agent "bound" to wrong NIC / IP Address
all,
Background:
All but two servers are working as expected with the server showing up in SIM on the correct NIC - PROD. Each Server has two active NIC's one PROD and one BAK.
On all servers the binding order is PROD and then BAK. For the working server PROD's ip address is: 172.16.0.X and BAK is: 172.16.16.X. On the two non-working servers it is as follows: PROD 172.16.4.X and BAK 172.16.16.X The PROD NIC holds the gateway entry for all servers.
The hardware of the two non-working servers is matched multiple times throughout the network as well as OS version. I've taken the last several days to bring all the servers up to SIM Agent 7.30, Version Control Agent to 2.1.1.720, installed the latest Home Page software.
In DNS the server name is entered as SERVER matching the PROD IP Address. Also, it is entered as SERVER1 matching the BAK IP address.
Only on the two servers with a 172.16.4.x address do I see them listed twice in SIM 4.2sp2. For the name SERVER I get unknown type and limited information. For the entry SERVER1 everything is correct.
Questions:
-Does anyone have a suggestion as to why two servers would be using the BAK address for the Agent?
-Why would the entry/information for SERVER1 be correct but the entry for SERVER be incorrect ... and/or show up as unknown.
-- i'm sure I'll come up with a few other questions with some time... ;-)
Have a great weekend and thanks!
eric
