Integration of multiple HP SIM installations
Hi
I'm currently designing a solution for one of our regional sites and am looking at managing HP Hardware at multiple offices with HP SIM 5.
I'm unsure whether i should have a central HP SIM Server at the data centre with all branch offices feeding into this, or have multiple instances of HP SIM at each branch office all linked together (if this is possible!). Most, if not all sites have decent links (2mb MPLS) and so i'm leaning towards having a central SIM Server with all devices from remote offices feeding into it.
I've taken a look around HP and can't find any tech notes on the best practices for this scenario, so if anyone has any real world experiences or if anyone can point me in the direction of a white paper i'd be very grateful.
Thanks!
Peter

Re: Integration of multiple HP SIM installations
HI
HPSIM has not been designed to work in a distributed manner. Different HP SIM servers cannot feed a central server that would aggrogate all the data. In other words, a central HP SIM is the solution.
Regarding the branch office links to the HP SIM server, you can configure the CMS to poll the different sites at different times of the day with differant interval (shorter or longer depending on the link which is available).
When speaking about version control, a local vcrm (version control repository manager) can be put in place on remote sites in order to prevent traffic overload on these links. This way you will be able to update bios and roms remotely without overloading the networks.
Hope it helps.
best regards
