Java Plug-In not detected after applying SP30629

Hi all,

I applied patch SP30629 which is supposed to address problems with downloaded updates into the VCRM with SMH 2.1. Now, whenever I try to get to the SIM login page, I get the dreaded "A suitable Java Plug-In (JPI) was not detected on this system" message.

This is happening even after I rolled back the patch files. It's happening on the SIM server and on all workstations, whether or not they had Java previously installed. I've installed all versions of Java from workstations and done a fresh install, with no luck.

I'm only having the problem with Internet Explorer. Firefox works fine, and other Java-enabled sites such as Rack & Power Manager aren't having issues.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks,

Re: Java Plug-In not detected after applying SP30629

Took me a while to track down the patch.

I've not installed it, your description certainly suggests it is the Server end that has the problem.
Seems a bit like a repetition of the Java / MS Patch issue that happened a while back. Again that affected IE and not Firefox.

I see it's a very manual install / removal, so you'd need to check file versions and also that all services have been restarted.

You may want to log it as an actual call and get it escalated.

Re: Java Plug-In not detected after applying SP30629

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your suggestions. The files are definitely back to their pre-patch versions, and I've restarted the service several times with no luck.

It looks like I will, in fact, have to call HP and log the call... as if I had time...

And just as well you have Firefox!

Look closely at your globalsettings.props file. If it gets truncated you will see these exact same symptoms.

Re: Java Plug-In not detected after applying SP30629

Thanks, Joel. How would I tell if the file had been truncated? Currently it's got 33 lines in it (2 KB size). Does that seems small?

Yesterday when all of this happened the settings from the "Options -> Events -> Automatic Event Handling -> E-mail Settings" disappeared. They are stored in the globalsettings.props so this would seem consistent.

Re: Java Plug-In not detected after applying SP30629

Steve,

yes it has been truncated. it is typically about 5000 bytes in size. If you have a backup you can restore it and it will correct the problem.

Thanks, Joel. I will restore the file from tape.
