Linux Hp Insight Agents

Hi, i have installed all the agents necessary in Linux Es 3 but i dont receive any notification in the Insight Manager (just the cold start event if i restar the snmpd). If i do a "lsmod" i dont have the drivers mencioned in the manual do i need to install Proliant Support Pack for linux so the agents could work ?

For ex. if i do a system shutdown i dont receive any event (just the system unreacheable)

Do i need to put some files in the /usr/local/mibfiles ??

Thanks in advance...

Yes I believe you need to install PSP on the server by which you could more detailed information and alerts from various agents. Best way would be to configure System Management Homepage and Version Control Agent before you install the pack.

Re: Linux Hp Insight Agents

I dont see anyware saying i need to install PSP, i see in the Document Managing HP on Linux if i make a lsmod i dont see the drivers "cpqasm" and "cpqevt" wich are referenced on the document, but the hpasm and all the agents are function properly, i dont want to install system management homepage beacause i have Hp Systems Insight Manager 4 SP1 to manage the systems. where do i find this drivers ? are they installed with PSP (proliant support pack)....

Re: Linux Hp Insight Agents

Hi, Im not a Linux expert but from what I understand you need to obtain the RPM file. Check the below links may be of some help.

Luis:

You're looking at an old version of the paper. Find updated documentation from the link http://www.hp.com/go/proliantlinux --> ProLiant + Linux Documentation

In 7.1.1 and later the 'hpasm' package was rewritten to take it out of kernel space and put it in user space. That's why the lsmod doesn't show anything. The newer version of the paper eliminates that instruction.

Re: Linux Hp Insight Agents

very well then..assuming that, i have the the hpasm drivers and agents loaded, why im just receiving information about the system and just the coldstart event in the Hp SIM and dont receive events such as LinkUp and LinkDown when i reboot the system..do i need to install the Proliant support Pack for linux ?
Im receiveing snmp in the hp sim..if i make a tcpdump on the machine i see the SnmpRequests and SnmpResponses for system information but i also see a NoSuchName when SIM asks for OIDS starting with hp (see the attachment) do i need aditional mibs on the machine ?

Re: Linux Hp Insight Agents

If you just installed those two rpm's then you probably don't have all the items loaded. That's why the PSP is delivered so that you can all the right drivers, agents, etc. that are a tested set. Also for the NIC, is it an HP NIC (embedded/standup)or another vendor?

Re: Linux Hp Insight Agents

Sending traps requires confiuration of SNMP on the linux server. I actually found a great article from another hardware vendor on configuring SNMP.

The main thing to send a trap to an management station is to add the following line to /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

trapsink ipaddress communityname.
