Monitoring of IBM servers with HPSIM.

Hi.

I need info about monitoring IBM-servers with HPSIM. Has anyone a description of what I need to do?
I asume that I need IBM mib's, but isn't the mib's included in the latest HPSIM version?
If I need to download the mib's, where can I find the latest version?

I have version 6.1 of HPSIM installed Build C.06.01.00.00
Maybe there is a newer version available?

Hi,

Both HPSIM 6.2 and the latest mib update kits are available from:

Re: Monitoring of IBM servers with HPSIM.

You also need agents on the IBM side that will generate SNMP Traps if an issue is detected.
HPSIM can poll for server up / down, but it's the agents that monitor and alert for issues at the server side.

Re: Monitoring of IBM servers with HPSIM.

Not sure how compatible the IBM hardware agents are with SIM?
IBM has its own equivalent specifically for IBM (x86) hardware called "IBM Director".
Likewise Dell and Sun also have their own variants. Each vendor platform supports some common SNMP MIB values & traps but I don't think any one vendor's hardware-level management platform handles all of the quirks of the other vendors'.
Dell (DRAC) and Sun (ILOM) devices send out similar traps; so any management platform capable of parsing SNMP traps can react to the alarms, but as far as the more advanced inventory/proactive management capabilities you're probably going to miss out. I haven't played with IBM's MIBs recently so can't say how compatible they are.

Re: Monitoring of IBM servers with HPSIM.

This doc has fallen out of the HP SIM Information Library because it's not being maintained, but barring some screenshots that may be different in the current version of HP SIM, the information and processes are accurate: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00709449/c00709449.pdf

HP SIM uses SNMP MIBs exclusively for event translation; all other data is collected via WMI.

Re: Monitoring of IBM servers with HPSIM.

Hello,

for IBM Server the officially supported platform in Xeries ( X????). HPsim can monitore it, I try it for windwos and it is working fine.
- you need to have the latest Director Agent ( Common) 6.x.x under your windwos server.
- you need also snmp to be configured to sned trap to your hpsim server.
- once done , just make a discovery.

- I'm trying to do the same for linux ...
