Monitoring servers via the internet
I have HP SIM 4.2 running successfully and monitoring servers in London and New York. The HP SIM server is in London and the NY servers are monitored via a point-to-point VPN. I have other servers in Paris, Cologne and Singapore that I'd also like to monitor, but have no VPN to those offices. Is there any way I can add these remote servers and monitor via the internet? The remote offices are connecting to the internet using ADSL.
Thanks,
Noel.
Thanks,
Noel.

Re: Monitoring servers via the internet
I'm not sure how much of your remote servers are visible directly from the internet but if you're like most, it will be very little if any.
I suppose if they're web servers, you could use HPSIM to hardware poll them with http to tell you if they're available.
Receiving traps will probably be problematic since it's unlikely you will want your SIM server to receive traps from the internet.
If your number of servers at the non-VPN sites is low, you might want to try using the Event Notifier app instead to send you SMTP messages instead of forwarding traps.
Good luck,
Kevin

Re: Monitoring servers via the internet
Kevin, thanks for your response. Your point on using event notifications is a good one, and I'll certainly bear it in mind. There is one other fact that I failed to mention in my original post - both remote offices are working with static IP addresses, so I am considering accepting trap information from these addresses through the firewalls.
Thanks again.
Noel.
