MS04-025 (IE Patch) broke SIM 4.1?

Today I was using SIM 4.1 sucessfully and then downloaded the MS04-025 IE patch. After the server reboot SIM now gets stuck on the pre-login page saying 'Please wait. Checking for a Java Plug-in."

Anyone else see this problem?

Re: MS04-025 (IE Patch) broke SIM 4.1?

I uninstalled the patch, rebooted, and now SIM works again. I then re-installed the patch and SIM gets stuck at the same point. So it seems like a pretty clear indication that at least on WS2003E the IE patch broke SIM 4.1 on my system.

Re: MS04-025 (IE Patch) broke SIM 4.1?

Derek,
How I wish I'd seen your post earlier.
I can confirm your experiences.
I get the Please Wait. Checking for Java Plugin.
The last thing I did was apply the latest IE Patch - MS04-025.
To try and fix this I'va also done.
Cleared all Java Caches even renaming temp directories etc.
I uninstalled JRE 1.4.2_04 and reinstalled - same result.
I unstalled all JRE's and let HPSIM install 1.4.1 and it gets as far as re-requesting the Certificate Grant but then hangs on the checking JRE.
HPSIM is still working fine with Mozilla. So, I know it's not HPSIM that's changed.

Re: MS04-025 (IE Patch) broke SIM 4.1?

The same goes for me.

I applyed the patch through a toll called Shavlik HFNetChk Pro, and right after that, SIM 4.1 stop working (checking Java enviroment).

I did a manual upgrade of Java from 1.4.1_04 -> 1.4.1_07 with no success of fixing the problem.

I have noticed some posts on different forums mentioning problems with Mozilla and Java after applying MS04-025 and also IE and Java.

Please, please, please help

I to have had this problem today. :( At the moment I have taken the patch off and will be leaving it off. Don't suppose any of the HP folk want to contact MS do they?

Re: MS04-025 (IE Patch) broke SIM 4.1?

The problem has been reported to development and they are working it. It appears to be related to a change in behavior for IE. From http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q875345 :

"For example, if a binary object such as an ActiveX control tries to use the JavaScript protocol to execute script, this execution will now fail."

Re: MS04-025 (IE Patch) broke SIM 4.1?

A previous post mentions Mozilla, for me Mozilla was unaffected. The change is in IE, and has nothing to do with java.
So, I'm currently using Firefox 0.92 on W2K to access all my HPSIM stuff.

Is anyone else having to login twice under Firefox and Mozilla ? The first login flashes up a different screen quickly, and then goes back to the login prompt. Login again and HPSIM pops up as expected.

I've only tried this on the two latest versions of Firefox and Mozilla, i.e. 0.9.2 and 1.7.1 at the time of writing.

Re: MS04-025 (IE Patch) broke SIM 4.1?

Late post, but same problem...

This was installed on the affected system on Sunday, via an automated network wide update of all systems.

Any timeframe before a fix/solution is found? I've marked this string to monitor for updates. HP Guys - Please post solution, or at least a notification, when a solution to this is found.

I started a new thread at http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=656817 so people wouldn't have to scroll down to find the update.

The link to the fix seems to be down. Too many people trying to download? Is there another place?
