Re: mxdomainmgr.exe CPU Utilization @ 98%

If you disable the HP Systems Insight Manager service then (not surprisingly) HP SIM won't work. If you're going to do this then you might as well uninstall HP SIM... but this is hardly a solution for the vast majority (if not all) of the posters here who actually want to use Systems Insight Manager.

Re: mxdomainmgr.exe CPU Utilization @ 98%

Before disabling/uninstalling hp Systems Insight Manager, please consider performing the following actions:

- review the sizing document on http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/infolibrary.html . If you have less than the recommended amount of memory, some page trashing is to be expected. This, and not having a power enough processor may contribute to a backup of arrived events that has not yet had a chance to be processed by SIM yet, causing a higher memory consumption and slower performance. Remember if other applications share the same server, that additional resources has to be planned for those applications. As a rule of thumb, MSDE users (SQL Server Desktop Edition or Personal Edition) should not use more than 500 devices or have more than 5000 events in the database. People with full commercial SQL servers should be able to live with as much as 5000 client devices and 50,000 events. More than that, and performance will suffer. In such a case, consider if any of the devices are contributing disproportionally to the events database and seek to stop/reduce the events. Alternatively, install additional SIM servers and divide the work load.

- Consider using the latest version of SIM. At the time of this writing, SIM 5.1 SP1 is the latest revision. It has a number of additional features beyond that of SIM 5.0 and especially 4.x, including bug fixes.

- Open a case with HP. This is easily done only from http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/mcm/countrySelection.do? You do have to register. (You can also view existing cases that was called in through this portal). There should be a limited software warranty available through each ProLiant (check your warranty documentation) and support contracts can be purchased beyond that point.

Re: mxdomainmgr.exe CPU Utilization @ 98%

I just recently had the same problem. It turned out to be because I change my Domain Administrator password. I spoke with someone at HP and we looked at the mxdomainmgr.0.log and saw some login errors. Checked the database.props file and it was using domain\\Administrator. I had recently changed the password. We used mxpassword -g to change it to the new password. I also had to do another command to check the database. I am sorry I cannot remember the command. But in the end mxdomainmgr.exe process runs about 1% util with an occasional jump to 20. I am now trying to determine how to change it so it will use a different account rather than domain administrator.

Re: mxdomainmgr.exe CPU Utilization @ 98%

Same problems....
Same recommendations from HP: use a larger machine. So we have a DL380, 2x Dualcore 3 GHz, 4 GB RAM....
for about 800 Servers, SIM 5.0 SP 5

for me it seems to be a problem of the numbers of http-sessions open. When nobody is connected to the SIM via the Web-interface, the cpu utilization is about 5 percent, when doing the status polling it's about 50 % for 1 minute. When 1 user connects (doing nothing on the interface, just looking at it), cpu utilization is about 25-30 percent, 2 users 50-60 percent and so on....

For me this is a extreme strange behaviour, http-session doing nothing will cause a cpu load of 25% per session!

For we got these problems for more than a year now, got contacts with HP consultants etc. i do not have anymore hope that HP is able and/or willing to solve this problem.

Re: mxdomainmgr.exe CPU Utilization @ 98%

SDV,

please consider upgrading your version of hp Systems Insight Manager before giving up. There two newer versions, and a new major release is expected in mid November (5.2).

Did you log a case through the portal?

Re: mxdomainmgr.exe CPU Utilization @ 98%

I just upgraded to SIM 5.3 SP1 (and hotfix) yesterday.

I am now running into the same issues. I am also having SIM restart on me. App Log contains the following:

Event ID: 2
Restarting MxDomainManager

Event ID: 3
Restart was successful

Once it restarts, CPU is pegged for about 10 minutes while it loads the 1 gb of memory.

I'm running on a DL360 G3 with 4 Gb of ram, Win2k3 SP2. Database is SQL on a remote server.

I tried deselecting the Send Authentication Trap, but luck with that either......

Re: mxdomainmgr.exe CPU Utilization @ 98%

I've had this problem for a while now. I have the C.05.03.01 installed.
I have the SNP 'Send authentication trap' Unchecked.
I've uninstalled and delted the old folder, re-installed and same issue. After setting up the box the second time, I went to tasks&Logs and saw the Initial Data Collection was at 98%, so I sat there and waited for it to finish. Looked over at the screen 10 minutes later, and it was at 13%. ???? It appears, the Initial Data Collection does not stop after the Initial scan...
I have the SNP 'Send authentication trap' Unchecked.

After disabling and stopping this scan, my CPU dropped from the initial 90-100% down to 60-80%. Like others have stated, with SIM disabled, my cpu is at 0-1%.

SQL activity is still kind of high. I'm going to look at connections between them and see if that drops the remaining 60%.

So, judging by these answers, it seems that the only useful solution to install the RSP CMS and SQL Express on different servers ...

Re: mxdomainmgr.exe CPU Utilization @ 98%

Re the last posting suggesting separate servers are required:

Not necessarily, while it may be a better setup if it can be financially accomodated, the HPSIM, SQL server & VCRM can all be installed onto a single server of suitable specification.

The CPU utilization(s) on that server will depend on how you've configured that server and the applications running on it.

Our DL360 G3 (dual 2.8Ghz Xeon, 2GB RAM) runs HPSIM, SQL 2005, VCRM, & CA ITM management/distribution server and most of the time when it's idle the CPU usage is typically 3% or less.

The amount of load HPSIM puts onto the system is dependent on how you've configured the Scheduled Tasks etc. On our system for example, we do not use Automatic Discovery & that task is disabled. All systems are manually added after verifying that their DNS names can be properly resolved for forward & reverse lookup.

You can further adjust the workload by how you setup your collections (eg. organize by Province/City) and tasks relating to them (ie Data Collection, Software Status Polling).

To help you understand our system's HPSIM load, it is presently managing 301 servers, 8 clusters & 158 other devices (these are typically the ILO's - a few more to come once we've gotten their DNS names properly registered in AD DNS).
