Mysterious POST Error

Every time I boot this particular DL360 G4 server, it reports a POST Error to SIM. However there is nothing in the POST that tells me anything is wrong. I've reseated the hardware on the box, Re-installed SSP 7.4 & 7.5, Used Firmware dis 7.5, and it still reports this nagging trap over to SIM. My only clues are the warning in the Windows Event log (below), and HP wants me to clear the NVRAM, and basically start from scratch. I really don't want to do that because the server functions A-OK otherwise.... The fans inside the module all say model # DB04048B12U and the Fan module itslef is HP part # 361399-001...Any ideas??

Re: Mysterious POST Error

We Also encounter this error upon upgrading the firmware for ProLiant DL 360 G4 Smart Array and BIOS. Anyone can help with this case?

Re: Mysterious POST Error

I'm still recieving this system warning, it is not only on the G4 DL360s, I've found it on a G3 as well. Hey HP! Any Ideas?

Re: Mysterious POST Error

Hi There

I am having same problem. HP advised me to ignore this error as it is caused by there diagnostic software having said that they did advice me to update my server with latest firmware and latest PSP.

hope this helps

Re: Mysterious POST Error

That really doesn't help much. HP gave me the same thing. Why can't a new FW and/or SSP be developed and released to fix this issue. When one of my servers throw a POST error, it starts an immediate concern about hardware stability and/or configuration.

Re: Mysterious POST Error

i had same problem after PSP 7.51 and firm upgrade. HP replied:

"Please run the ROM upgrade from the following URL for the 4146 error message and update us with your observations:

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp23501-24000/SP23615.exe

This message is a warning message and does not cause any functionality loss.

We would also like to know whether the issue with the NIC persists even after upgrading the firmware and PSP."

not sure what this does. it only helped on one server.

Re: Mysterious POST Error

RESOLVED!

The Event ID 4146 Warning message goes away when you DOWNGRADE to the previous version of the System BIOS. In the case of the ProLiant DL360G4, you downgrade from 2006.02.14 (02-Feb-2006) to 2005.08.06 (06-Aug-2005).

It just worked for me on a DL360G4.

I thought maybe using a different version of the 2006 BIOS upgrade, like the floppy diskette version might work, but alas it does not :-( The only way to really get rid of Event ID 4146 is to remember NOT to upgrade the BIOS to 2006.02.14.

fyi, one of the 2006.02.14 BIOS "FIXES" says this: "Resolved an issue where system fan information is not displayed in Systems Insight Manager (SIM)." Hmmm...

Clearly HP needs to fix this bug in their next version of the DL360G4 BIOS, and perhaps other buggy BIOS versions. Hopefully they are working this (hint, hint)

Re: Mysterious POST Error

Well I guess that's one approach, Thanks for the confirmation, but...

HEY, HP! How about a BIOS update! Downgrading sounds like the whole "ostrich" attitude.

Re: Mysterious POST Error

Hello,

I am also experiencing the issue with the POST error advising of the Unknown fan. I don't really want to roll back the firmware because of this, but if there are other workarounds I'd be very interested to know.

Many Thanks,
