I just finished installing and configuring SIM. Everything went smoothly, with no apparent problems.
After having performed an automatic discovery (where the system told me it discovered a number of devices), when I click on "all systems" the list is empty.
I'm sure that snmp is configured properly on my devices because it works for another monitoring software.
I'm trying to use SIM to monitor two specific Netware servers. Even if I perform a manual discovery, these don't show up in the system list.
What could I be doing wrong?
Help is very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Caterina

SolutionWith discovery filters off, HP SIM will add any device to the database it can contact, regardless of whether any management software is running on it. If you can get them there, we can then worry about getting them recognized.
Also, these NetWare servers are running TCP/IP aren't they and not just IPX?

Re: No system listed
first of all thank you for replying.
I'm running SIM on a SLES 9 server, and the NW server are on IP only, not on IPX.
Turning the discovery filters off helped. I've now all the devices listed (including the workstations, sigh).
It's just bizarre that before I had the servers apparently discovered in the audit logs, but they never appeared in the "all systems" list (or other lists).
thank you!

If you've configured a new user in HPSIM, you must authorize the account under Security in the console.

Re: No system listed
I was logged in as root (it's a brand new system and I didn't configure any new accounts yet), but I'm in the process of configuring the other accounts, so I'm sure I would have encountered this problem if you wouldn't have warned me! Thanks!

Re: No system listed
Yes, with discovery filters on, HP SIM was able to see them as you can see in the logs, but didn't recognize them so it tossed them away.
Your systems are coming up as "unmanaged" now probably. That means that HP SIM hasn't discovered any protocols that it can manage with, primarily SNMP.
This could be because of configuration problems at the HP SIM server or at the other end. If the HP SIM server is a ProLiant, you should be using the ProLiant Support Pack for Linux from http://www.hp.com/servers/swdrivers but if it is not, you may not have an SNMP layer installed on your SLES9 server. In that case, pick up the Net-SNMP utilities from that same link because those have the Compaq extensions.
Otherwise, normal debugging: make sure your community strings match, make sure you have included the HP SIM server in the hosts the other systems will respond to and etc.

Re: No system listed
well, that's the strange thing.
They don't appear unmanaged (unless they're supposed to be unmanaged). I can see the servers, the printers, the switches etc, and I can check their status, the alerts...in other words it works.
I'm not sure why they weren't the first time.
Turning the discovery filters off seemed to fix the problem, even if in principle it should have been working even with them enabled.
The network has been in "bizarroland" the whole week, so somehow it doesn't suprise me :-)
I'll probably try to enable the filters again at some point, to see if the services disappear again, just for a test.
If they do, I'll report back.
Thank you!
