Old events keep getting emailed to me.

I disabled a task yesterday, and when I re-enabled it I keep getting swamped by old events which are emailed to me by the hundreds.

Is there a task I can set up that deletes or clears old events?

I have had similar problems, but in my case the events generating the alerts were definitely cleared already. Please see my post: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=710704.

Is this the same thing you've been seeing? I'd be interested to know.

Clearing an event just changes it's status it does not remove it from the database.

Yes I am in the same boat as you. I set up a job to clear events and had awful job getting the scheduled job to run. But today I changed the email address ( where the alerts are sent to) from mine to a group email address. As soon as I did this- bang we got about 2000 emails which I had already got the other day, some of which I had not seen in the first place. I thought I had cleared them.

Bit frustrating to say the least and I am very unpopular in my team at the moment

Joel - I know that clearing an event does not remove it from the database. But on Friday, our SIM4.1 server suddenly decided to run a task against 49 past, cleared events, and generated alerts for each one. These events ranged back in time for the past month and had previously had the task run against them on and been cleared.

This was also not in conjunction with re-enabling a task, or in fact with *any* administrative action whatsoever on the SIM server.

SIM clearly shows that yes, it did run the task, and yes, it did generate the alerts, but it gives no indication of WHY. Nor was that the first time this has happened.

That certainly sounds like a bug to me.

Yes it is a defect in SIM. We are currently testing a potential fix for this.

Please open a call with your local support center and request that the case be elevated so you can get a copy of the fix to test.

Hi,

Just in case anyone doesn't know, the patch for this issue has been released. The Softpaq number is SP26214. I installed it and everything seems fine so far.
