Old VCA Login to New HP SIM VCRM Fails

Hi,
I have about 50 old servers running PSP 7.0.0 and am unable to login from their VCA to our new HP SIM 5 SP4 server's VCRM. I want to set up a reference PSP for each of the monitored servers. We are not upgrading any of the monitored servers soon. The VCA "configure agent" login lists 4 options for username (administrator, user, operator, anonymous). I've tried each and have not found any way to logon to our new HP SIM server. I even tried creating "administrator" as a local/privileged user on the new HP SIM server, but no luck. I'm guessing this issue is because SSH is not installed on the monitored servers. Still, it would be nice to confirm if non-SSH VCA clients are unsupported by the new HP SIM/VCRM?

Re: Old VCA Login to New HP SIM VCRM Fails

Sorry - it has nothing to do with SSH. Around PSP7.20 VCA moved from using its own private credential setup to using OS based credentials. At that time there was a backwards compatibility route setup for people who were doing upgrades so that their VC would just not stop working. It sounds like you setup a new HPSIM/VCRM and the backwards compatibility path may not be there. In this case the easiest thing you can do is create a local user on the system running VCRM called operator, it doesn't have to have any special privilege. Then place this operator id into an OS userid group that you create. You can call the group whatever you want for instance you can call it VCOperators. You then go into the System Management Homepage for the system running VCRM and go to the security settings. Here you can go to the "User Groups" and you then add VCOperators to the "Operator" or "Administrator" list. This will give your operator ID Administrator or Operator privilege within SMH. Operator privilege is the minimum that you can have for VC to work. You then setup your old VCA's with operator and the password for that ID and you should be set.

Oh, by the way don't use the Administrator ID as that is not allowed. That is why I said to create the operator ID instead.
