hi
after my bodged HP SIM 5 install i have gone back to a fresh install of HP SIM 4.2
i have got everything working apart from PMP and VC agents on my windows 2003 servers (no sp1).
all were complaining about trust issues, i have repaired the agents settings and this has fixed most issues. when i now click on a server name it takes me straight to the server systems home page, the VCA are all configured and are picking up the VCMR and on the local servers the vcagent is reporting correctly, But when i check on the SIM 4.2 server under the SW column it insists on showing the italic i icon, and displays software version status: security trust issue. Click here for details.
also the pmp colum shows a red cross, stating performance status: critical click here for details and when you click on it it brings up a page that it cannot gather the pmp status.
A critical status in the Performance (PF) column could indicate that PMP was unable to retrieve the required information from the server. PMP attempts to retrieve the required information at least twice before reporting the critical status.
but when i enter the url for the pmp page for the server it brings up the correct page i can see all the PMP information and it is working fine.
it just seems that the links from the SIM console to some of the individual server links are not working, i have ran all the software and hardware diagnostics and run discovery, identify systems but this does not seem to fix the issue, also rebooting the servers does not seem to make a difference
any help would be appreciated.
I have attached a screenshot of the hp sim server page (blanked out server names) the PSP versions are all on 7.2 or 7.3, the HP sim 4.2 is running on windows 2003 sp1
thanks
rogier

Solution
Which OS is running on the server that is to be monitored?
There is a troubleshooting section available in the PMP setup_install guide. Refer the issue addressed for Win 2003 (something related to the version of the OS). That may be one potential problem that you are facing (That may be applicable for Win 2000 too)
If you are running PMP 3.1.1
* There is no support for Windows 2003 SP1 (With out SP1 it is supported). So you'll have to upgrade to 3.1.2

Re: PMP and VCA problems
I've seen red X's where the SNMP community names are mismatched between target and HPSIM Server.
If you use multiple Read Only Community names in HPSIM, PMP only seems to use the first in the HPSIM list. So again there can be a mismatch.
If you've reinstalled stuff, the Certificate may actually be invalid, try deleting and reimporting the certificate from the agent.

Re: PMP and VCA problems
i have upgraded pmp to version 3.1.2 thanks, weird that pmp 3.1.1 worked for monitoring a windows 2000 server still even though the HP sim server is w2k3 sp1
the OS running on the server that is to be monitored is w2k3 without SP1.
i have removed the default public from the read only list and moved my custom snmp read only community to the top line, and have restarted the hp sim server,
the certificate seems to work for all components including PF
many thanks, i am just not sure if i am going to upgrade to hp sim 5.0 now i have finally got 4.2 backup and running, perhaps i will leave it for a week or 2.
thanks again
