Problem with HP SIM 4.2 SP1 and PMP

Hi, I have a problem with HP SIM 4.2 SP1 and PMP. By the moment I have just 4 servers licensed with PMP and all works correctly on 3 of them. The fourth is licensed but can't get it working. I've checked SNMP properties, imported certificates and all I found on this forum but can't get any solution. I also deinstalled PMP and deleted the database to start over but I still have the same problem.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Problem with HP SIM 4.2 SP1 and PMP

Hello,

After uninstalling PMP and deleting the PMP DB, restart the system.
Then Run an automatic discovery. Wait until it finishes.
Then Install PMP through HP SIM Setup, you will have the only options to install PMP and something I cannot remember of (it was 0Kb allthough).
Then Restart the System again.
Rerun an automatic discovery.
Get in the PMP Licensing page and remove the license, update the license and it may be ok.

Re: Problem with HP SIM 4.2 SP1 and PMP

Thanks but I've already done all of this. It's not possible to remove any license from PMP so I deinstalled all the software, deleted registry keys and reinstalled the software and licenses and didn't work. Any other idea?

Re: Problem with HP SIM 4.2 SP1 and PMP

What do you mean by "can't get it working"?

1. You licensed it
2. Started monitoring session

then, What happens next?

Please verify that all the HP SNMP management agents are running fine on the server you are trying to monitor.

Re: Problem with HP SIM 4.2 SP1 and PMP

SNMP seems to be configured correctly because hw status adn sw status works fine. SNMP is confugured like another server that works with PMP. I Started data collection on 4 machines at the same time, and all worked a few minutes after except this one, which shows again the page with a link to admin and licensing pmp instead of the page with collected data. If you need more information just tell me because I'm lost and don't know what to do with this one.

Thanks in advance for your help

Re: Problem with HP SIM 4.2 SP1 and PMP

Please let me know the following.

1. what OS / Service pack is the server ( with problems) running?

2. What is the Product name( DL 380 etc)

3. Please create PMPLog.txt in the same folder where there is PMP.exe exits in the PMP install directory. Could you please pass me that file after having 30 minutes of entries in it?

Re: Problem with HP SIM 4.2 SP1 and PMP

Hello, the server is ML530 on Windows 2000 SP3. This is one node for a two node cluster.
About pmplog.txt I don't know how to generate it, can you help me?

Re: Problem with HP SIM 4.2 SP1 and PMP

Please go to PMP install folder.
Typically 'C:\Program Files\HP\Performance Management Pack 3'

In this folder you will have PMP.exe. In this same folder , right click ->New->Text Document. Give the new text document the name of "PMPLog".

When PMP service runs, it starts placing entries to this file. These entries can help me debug the issue.

You may please send me an email at raghavendra.kandakurtikar@hp.com.

Re: Problem with HP SIM 4.2 SP1 and PMP

Hi, sorry for my delay. After posting the last message I created it. I thought it had to be generated by some tool but don't. I solved the problem but don't know exactly how. Basically added private and public comunity to snmp and rebooted agents 'client' and pmp on SIM server. After that it worked. I saw there was some kind of issue with communities on w2k3, so I tried. I also restarted pmp service to refresh and I think it was the problem. I'll tell you if I get the error again but now it's working correctly. Thanks a lot for helping me.

Just restarted agent on 'client server' and restarted pmp service on HP-SIM server.
