SCSI issue sp24997.exe - HPSIM instead of CIM?
Hi there. This softpaq comes with a .BAT that lets you pull the SCSI serial numbers from CIM 7 SP2. I tried running it on our HPSIM 1.0 db, and it throws this error:
Cannot open database requested in login 'insight_db_v32'. Login fails.
If I modify the script to hit insight_v1_0 instead, I get this error:
Msg 207, Level 16, State 3, Server NI3-SRVR, Line 17
Invalid column name 'IndexInstance'.
Is there a version of this script for HPSIM? Or what other modifications do I need to make? I thought that CIM was going out the door and HPSIM is supposed to be the replacement for it? It doesn't appear to have nearly as much functionality (especially for Windows servers) as I read about CIM 7 having.

Re: SCSI issue sp24997.exe - HPSIM instead of CIM?
According to the included doc with the SoftPaq,
"HDSERIAL.EXE USER GUIDE
HDSERIAL.EXE was created to identify a very small percentage (less than 0.6 percent) of 36 GB and 72 GB Ultra320 SCSI Hard Drives that were shipped in ProLiant servers, HP SCSI Hard Drive Option Kits, and HP Hard Drive Spares Kits from April 2003 through September 2003 that are susceptible to an invalid read operation."
This was a limited-use, limited purpose utility. There are no plans to update it.

Re: SCSI issue sp24997.exe - HPSIM instead of CIM?
I understand that. With that in mind, how do I go about finding the serial numbers of my hard drives in HPSIM? This batch script is probably very close to doing what I need, I assumed that it would be less than 5 minutes of work to modify the CIM 7 one to make the correct query in HPSIM.
I still have my lingering question, as well: in a Windows-only shop, would I be better served by installing CIM 7 instead of HPSIM? At least for now (the next year or so?) I understand that you probably can't answer the question for me, but perhaps you could give me some pro and con points.
Thank you

Re: SCSI issue sp24997.exe - HPSIM instead of CIM?
For what it's worth, I only have 5 servers that have 36 or 72 GB SCSI disks, so it wasn't onerous for me to run the surveychk.bat on each server. I'm still interested in the pros and cons of CIM vs. HPSIM. Does anyone have any feedback on how the two systems compare? Have I missed a page on the website somewhere.
