servers not displaying in "all systems"

Here is an issue that I am trying to work through with HP SIM 4.0. A server is not displayed in the "all systems" list. If you try to manually add the server, you get a message that the system already exists. This problem is probably the result of a DNS issue? How do you delete a system that does not display?

Re: servers not displaying in "all systems"

You probably need to delete the system from the hosts file (\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) on the CMS and then do a manual discover on it in SIM.
Also, are you trying to discover it by system name or IP? I'm thinking maybe your server really is listed in "all systems", but you're looking for it under its IP when its listed under its server name or vice versa?

I am not using the host file. And it doesn't matter if I were to enter in the server manually via the IP or host name. Either way returns an error message that the system already exist.

Re: servers not displaying in "all systems"

What I meant in my question to you was this: When you click "all systems", and you're looking through the list for this server that isn't there, this server could potentially have its IP address and not its name in the "system name" field. I was asking you if it were possible that you had overlooked it in the systems list because you were looking for it under a different label than it was listed.

Re: servers not displaying in "all systems"

I see your point but no, the server is not displayed by either the IP or DNS name.

Re: servers not displaying in "all systems"

Your server may be listed as unknown, unmanaged, or as other device, rather than a server. In the search box in SIM, type in either the server name or IP address.

Re: servers not displaying in "all systems"

I only have 31 devices listed. All of my displayed devices are identified as servers. My missing (not diplayed) servers are apparently in the database (If I try to maunally add the server, I get a message that the device already exist.) but are not displaying for as of yet an unknown reason to me.

Re: servers not displaying in "all systems"

Rebooting the SIM server (the SQl was on the same box) solved this for us.

Good luck.

Re: servers not displaying in "all systems"

It has something to do with the managed server I believe. I am only having this issue on Compaq CL380 servers. (Cluster in a box) I can get one of the two servers to display in HP SIM. But when you look at the "system page" for that server, it shows the IP address for both servers. Then when you look at the web management page, it shows the IP address for only the server listed.

I deleted my 4.0 installation and am making one last attempt with 4.1 before I move on to a third party product. I'll also try to manually update the managed servers to see if that helps.

It would be nice if one of the "HP guys" had any input on this at all.

Re: servers not displaying in "all systems"

Allan,

For each node of your cluster, do you have the Cluster Information listed in the Active column for the Control Panel/HP Management Agents? You may also have to add the IP address and each node name, in addition to the cluster name to monitor the state of each node.

Re: servers not displaying in "all systems"

Yes, the management agent is running on each of the two nodes. Currently I have listed the node (cluster) and one of the nodes. If I manually add the other node, the node that was there is replaced with the new manually entered one. Both nodes will not show up in the list at one time. I'm only having this issue on CL380 clusters.
