Servers showing as Unmanaged or unknown

Hi,

After installing HP SIM all the server are showing as Unmanaged or unknown in the management console under system type.

I ran discovery and hardware/software polling but the status is still the same.

Is there something that i need to do in order to change the status?

Thanks
Simon

Re: Servers showing as Unmanaged or unknown

Make sure you are communicating with the servers and that they have agents on them. They way i started the initial deployment in my environment was to turn on SNMP, deploy SSH from SIM Console, then Deploy the PSP.

I was not able to find a decent document on how to approach an existing environment and what the toe-holds you need to get moving are... Those worked for me though.

Re: Servers showing as Unmanaged or unknown

hi There,

Thanks for the help.
I got 28 out 52 servers to joined the SIM, however i got 15 servers that are not in the SIM.

I can see them in the console but their system type is unknown\unmanaged.

What is the best way to join them manually if auto is not working for them?

Thanks again

Re: Servers showing as Unmanaged or unknown

Unmanaged and unknown are 2 completely different things:

Unmanaged means that HP SIM cannot communicate successfully using a management protocol (such as SNMP or WBEM/WMI). That could be because it is not present on the device or is not configured to match the HP SIM central management server.

Use 'Configure or Repair Agents' to correct communications between HP SIM and ProLiant servers.

Unknown means that HP SIM has successfully communicated with the device, but does not have a rule to successfully classify the device.

What products are these?

Re: Servers showing as Unmanaged or unknown

Hi There,

I'm using Systems Insight Manager 5.1 with SP1 for Windows.

I checked the servers but the SNMP service is installed and running.

Re: Servers showing as Unmanaged or unknown

I would install this update for HP SIM 5.1.
I have correctly found non-HP servers. Today, a Dell server, with Dell's Open Manage software, indicated a disk failure alert.
Wbem, SNMP or some managed protocol needs to match.

Update to the
Pegasus WMI Mapper for HP Systems Insight Manager to version 2.4 (18 Oct 07)

Search on "WMI Mapper for HP Systems Insight Manager" at hp's web site.
Download and install this file
WMIMapper2_4_0.msi (2.3 MB) 18 Oct 2007
as displayed in the attached JPEG file.

or try this web page
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=MTX-aeb689f58db74128b59af142ce&prodTypeId=0&prodSeriesId=372323

I also found version 2.3 worked, too; however, ***versions prior to 2.3 **** have defects. You can review my other postings.

Waiting and hoping this additional attempt to upgrade to HP SIM 5.1 sp #1 from HP SIM 5.0 sp # 5 will work (again, just look at my other postings at this forum)
