SIM 4.2 ‘Version Control Repository Manager’ Install Problem
I installed PSP v7.1 onto my W2K3 CMS (ie. Central Management Server) with the three Configurable Components pointing to itself, plus the SIM service account, password and ‘Trust-All’ set. Note, the SIM service account is a domain account, placed into the CMS’s local admin group. This package includes ‘Version Control Agent v2.0’.
When I install SIM v4.2 onto this CMS, all components install correctly, except for the ‘Version Control Repository Manager v2.1’ with auto update set, which fails with ‘Automatic updates has been specified in the settings, but no files can be downloaded until at least one Version Control Agent is configured to use this Version Control Repository Manager. Please check Version Control Agent settings to insure proper operation of the automatic update feature” error message.
If I reinstall the Manager without the auto update set, it bombs out with the following error message: “The installation procedure did not complete successfully. An error occurred during the setup process. Look in the log file for more details”, but I can’t find this log file.
I have created a SIM user account that is mentioned in the ‘Version Control Agent’ within the ‘HP SIM Manager’ and have successfully logged in with this account.
If I go into System Insight Manager’s ‘Version Control Repository Manager’ page, the correct CMS, login account and password are pre-populated, but when I click on the button, it displays a ‘The specified repository is invalid or not available’. This is true, as the ‘Version Control Repository Manager’ install failed and didn’t populate this folder.
Can somebody assist me with my problem ?
Note1. I’ve found no doco stating installing the ‘Version Control Agent’ cpxxxxx.exe file is a prerequisite for loading the ‘Version Control Repository Manager’, or if it is mentioned somewhere, it must be hidden away somewhere !!
Note 2: The uninstallation of these SIM apps is pathetic. It leaves many files, registry keys

Re: SIM 4.2 ‘Version Control Repository Manager’ Install Problem
I had exactly the same problem when I upgraded.
What you have to do, is completely remove the system management homepage (SMH) v2.0 and the installed VCRM.
Once these are uninstalled, run the v4.2 HP SIM upgrade again, but select a custom installation.
Here only choose to install the VCRM and SMH again.
Let me know how you get on.
