SIM 5 - excluding Major alarms

Due to ongoing computer room infrastructure work, some of our servers are now running on one instead of two power supplies - not good I know, however, we are now getting 'major' alarms due to the lost redundancy. How can I configure an 'ignore' setting to mute the alarms until the work has been completed? We also have a similar problem with disconnected NICs...

Many thanks in advance.

Re: SIM 5 - excluding Major alarms

There's the rather brute force Disable Monitoring option.

The only other way I could think of would be to go to the HP Management Agents GUI, via the Command Console, and remove the required agent.

I've not tried that, and I don't know which agent would be responsible. But I use that method to disable ILO Major alarms by removing the Remote Lights Out Agent.

Re: SIM 5 - excluding Major alarms

Thanks Rob, but I want to keep monitoring the servers - even more important now that we're on limited redundancy!

Thanks for your help all the same.

All the best,

Re: SIM 5 - excluding Major alarms

You can either make use of the "Clear events" option available with the Automatic Event Handlic tasks or use the "Delete Events" task to do the same. The thing to note here is that the H/W status will still be Major/Minor.

Re: SIM 5 - excluding Major alarms

What I ended up doing was disabling the built in alarm which alerts on all Critical and Major events. I then created specific event handling jobs to alert on certain conditions, such as "System Unreachable", "Power Suppy Redundancy Degraded", etc.
This stopped the flood of notifications.

How is this done?

Re: SIM 5 - excluding Major alarms

Goto Options, Events, Automatic Event Handling. Select the System Event Handler and choose Disable.
Then, to create a new event, such as System Unreachable, goto New and "Create an event handling task" "with evetn and system attributes that I will specify".
Name the task, such as Node Down or whatever.
In Select Events, choose "where Event Type is: Systems Insight Manager Events."
Choose "System is Unreachable".
Then choose the systems to apply this to and choose the type of action, such as email notification or page.
Take some time to look through the Event Categories...there hundreds of possible events to be notified on.
Let me know if this helps.
