SIM and Basic Requirements for Pre-Failure Notification

Hello,

I am new to SIM and I have two related questions:

1. What is the minimum config in order to obtain pre-failure notification for storage? To clarify - would I still need a read/write community string to the CMS - could I get away with read only? Do SNMP traps need to be enabled?

2. Besides storage is pre-failure supported on any other hardware components?

Thanks,
Gene

Re: SIM and Basic Requirements for Pre-Failure Notification

It will be the Agents on the Servers that have the storage attached that will send the SNMP Traps.
Tey need SNMP configured so that their Trap Destination is the HPSIM Server.

Only a Read Only SNMP Community name is required. But if you want to be able to set thresholds etc. on the Agents then you'll need a Read/Write Community name set up.

I do not know what pre-failure conditions can be reported, it really depends a lot on the agents, drivers and firmware of the whole component set.
