SIM and Port 2301 Access - Why is it used?
I installed WS2003 SP1 on one of our test servers and enabled the firewall. Of course I allowed access to port 2381 for secure agent access via SSL. That works great if I open IE and go to the server.
However, to my dismay it seems when in SIM and you click on SW or HW status buttons it first connects to the remote server over 2301, which the agent then redirects to 2381.
My big question is: Why doesn't SIM go directly to 2381? I do NOT want to open a hole in all servers for 2301 when all it does is redirect to 2381. That's not very smart.
First, can I change the default ports in SIM and if not, why doesn't HP go directly to 2381?

Re: SIM and Port 2301 Access - Why is it used?
Older versions of the HP/Compaq Web Agent used http on port 2301 for all communications. Newer versions use SSL on port 2381, but for backwards compatability, SIM will default to port 2301.

How can I make it default to 2381? I will not open 2301 on my servers.

Re: SIM and Port 2301 Access - Why is it used?
Port 2301 is used to get a cookie. I haven't checked SIM 4.2 to see if it behaves the same way. I agree, this is unnecessary. I don't know any reason it couldn't get the cookie over port 2381.
