SIM, IM Agents, and Veritas NetBackup 5.0
Just wondering if anybody else is having this issue/concern. We have an HP SAN (EVA 5000), connected to a group of servers. For backups we have an MSL5000 library and run NetBackup 5.0. However, we ran into numerous I/O errors during backups (SCSI timeout issues). After comfirming that the Removable Storage service was disabled, we were also advised by HP to disable both the Fiber Array Agent and the SCSI Agent on the servers running NetBackup.
Now for the SIM question - How might this affect reporting/alerts? Does anybody know if HP is working on a solution for this for the next version of SIM? Thanks!!

Re: SIM, IM Agents, and Veritas NetBackup 5.0
I recommend posting the question to the tape library forum at http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/categoryhome.do?categoryId=198
If there are SCSI I/O and timeout errors occurring, changing the agents to not show them or try to suppress them in hpSIM is not the way to approach the problem.

Re: SIM, IM Agents, and Veritas NetBackup 5.0
Thanks for the quick response! I'm actually not looking for a solution on the NetBackup issue.* I'm more looking for the following: 1) How serious is the impact of not runnning those two agents for general server status reporting? and 2) Has anybody else had this issue come up (where SIM/IM7 agents are turned off as they interfere with other software) and how did they address the reporting issues?
[*Oddly, enough, as soon as those two agents were shut off the I/O issues did go away. I agree that it seems like a convoluted solution to the problem, but all of the troubleshooting was done by the HP EBS Engineering Team and this was their findings.]
