SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

How do I import the MIBs for Brocade 3.x switches? I found the MIBs for the Brocade 3.1 switches on the HP web site, but they are in some weird .mib.html format.

I tried to use the mcompile command with the MIBs, and it failed.

How come SIM doesn't have a graphical SNMP MIB import utility? Why are the HP Brocade MIBs in some strange HMTL format?

I want SIM to recieve traps for my 2/16 switch and alert me for problems.

You may find they're already there as the StorageWorks Fabric switches are just Brocade switches rebadged.

Do the switches get identified in IM?

Re: SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

No they didn't get identified, which is why I was assuming the MIBs weren't in CIM4.

Re: SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

I used some MIB's from Brocade's web site, but only two of the complied. The others got errors.

How come I pay $40,000 for a switch but HP can't put their own MIBs into their own monitoring products????

Re: SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

Both CIM and SIM recognise Brocade and StorageWorks Fabric Switches.

The MIBs in IM are V3_* check they're loaded.

Also, check that SNMP is set up on the Fabric Switches, it isn't be default. If IM cannot talk to SNMP on the Switch it will not be able to determine the device.

I did not have to do anything on SIM to get it to recognise a Brocade and StorageWorks switch. In both cases it shows up as a Storageworks switch.

Thanks I will doublecheck the switch settings.

Re: SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

I changed the SNMP settings in the 2/16 switch to allow my CIM server to access everything and it helped a little bit.

The device still comes up as unknown, but if I open detailed information on the unknown device in CIM then I do see the hardware description as what I put in the switch, location information, and the correct serial number.

System Type and Product model are unknown.

Re: SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

Derek -

from IM7 and up, StorageWorks/brocade switches mibs are already pre-compiled. Just make sure that during the discovery process, that you specify the correct read snmp strings in IM. If the devices are already discoevered. Run the daily device identification control task. If that doesn't work, remove the devices from SIm or IM then rerun the discovery.

It still comes up as known.

Are you using SIM or IM7?

SIM.

Re: SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

Have you run a device identification task on the device since you changed the SNMP parameters?

Re: SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

Yup. Ran it after I did a full discovery and the switch came up as unknown. It is reading some SNMP information, because it read the fields I just updated this AM (location, etc.).

I have the same problem as Derek? Any solution to this?

Re: SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

I still have the same problem with SIM 4.1. I manually added the device and it detects the serial number, hardware description and location, but system type is 'unknown' and model is blank.

The SAN switch is a HP 2/16 with firmware 3.1.1c.

Re: SIM MIBs for Brocade SAN 2/xx switches

I have the exact same problem as Derek.

SIM discovers and identifies StorageWorks 2/8 switches fine.

SIM Discovers StorageWorks 2/16 devices, but the System Type and Product model are unknown. Running Device Identification does not help. I have verified all SNMP information on the StorageWorks 2/16 switches - their configuration is identical to the 2/8 switches.

The StorageWorks 2/16 device comes up as unknown, but if I open detailed information on the unknown device I see the correct switch, location, serial number etc.

Firmware version on the 2/16 switches is 3.0.2k.

This appears to be a MIB issue. Anyone know where the correct MIB can be found?
