SIM send frequent unreachable and reachable alerts for Unix/Linux servers

Hi,

i have few unix/linux servers monitored in HP SIM 6.3(With hot fix), Windows 2003 Enterprise. it sends frequent unreachable and rechable alerts but the servers are stable. the duration between unreachable and rechable is 3 minutes always.

we have checked all possiblities on the network side and server side everything seems to be fine.

any help ?

Note: i have disabled SNMP in the SIM server and i am using HP SIM's SNMP.

What are your ping settings in SIM under Global protocol Settings?

it's 10 Secs and 2 retires.

i dont face this issue on managed Windows servers

We had the same problem when there was several network interfaces on SIM server (Linux). While routing configuration etc was OK, SIM repeatedly reported about reacheable/unreacheable systems.

i tried changing the polling intreval from 10 secs to 20 secs and 3 retries.

still the same issue.

any help is much appreciated.

Note: these are SUN boxes and Solaris OS.

Run a sniffer (wireshark or the like) at both ends and verifiy if the pings are actually getting to and form the SIM servers for a start then we can look at the software layer.
